MARA Cloud regularly updates its platform with new open-source models to deliver the best performance and capabilities to our users. As part of this process, older models that have been superseded by newer versions or have fallen in market relevance may be retired.
This page outlines our deprecation process, provides guidance on migration, and will be updated with a record of deprecated models along with their recommended alternatives as they become available.
Deprecation policy
- Production models receive a deprecation notice of 2-3 weeks minimum, depending on usage patterns and availability of newer versions.
- Preview models are intended for evaluation and experimentation. They may graduate to Production based on popularity and usage, or face deprecation. Preview models may be removed at shorter notice than Production models.
Notification channels
All deprecation notifications will be delivered through at least one of the following channels:
- Email - Users of models scheduled for deprecation will be notified via email with details about the deprecation timeline and recommended replacement models.
- Documentation - Model deprecation changes will be recorded on this page, including the deprecation date, affected models, and recommended alternatives.
- MARA Cloud platform - Models scheduled for deprecation will be clearly labeled in the MARA Cloud platform to inform users of their upcoming retirement.
Migration steps
When a model you use is scheduled for deprecation, follow these steps to ensure a smooth transition:
- Review the deprecation notice - Pay attention to email notifications and MARA Cloud platform alerts regarding the deprecation timeline and recommended alternatives.
- Evaluate alternatives - Review the Model Catalog to identify and select a suitable replacement model that fits your application's requirements.
- Integrate and test - Integrate the replacement model into your application and conduct the necessary testing to ensure compatibility. When migrating to new models, you may need to adjust your prompts to optimize performance.
- Complete migration - Finalize the transition by fully migrating your workload to the replacement model before the scheduled deprecation date to avoid any service disruptions.
